Welcome to Strathmoor Manor!
Strathmoor Manor is a Home Rule city governed by a Mayor and City Council, and has a police department that is shared with the cities of Strathmoor Village and Kingsley. Originally created in the 1920’s and advertised as an airplane subdivision, the Manor consists of 141 homes on Emerson, Strathmoor, and Lowell bounded by Bardstown Road and Lakeside Drive. Taxes are paid to the Manor and cover costs for garbage collection, fire and Strathmoor Police protection, city trees in the easements, street lights, and street maintenance. Each homeowner also pays property taxes to Metro Louisville.
Here is some specific information for you and your family about living in the Manor:
Garbage, yard waste, and recycle are collected on Tuesday morning of each week by our current service provider, Waste Management. If a holiday falls on Monday, there is a one day delay in garbage collection. Large junk items may be placed at the curb on any garbage day. Please contact Waste Management, Inc. at (502) 962-5085 for further information.
Please note that hazardous wastes, car parts, tires, wet paint, batteries, liquid waste, or anything harmful to Waste Management’s employees are never collected at curbside. Louisville Metro accepts those types of items at its Hazmat location.
The Strathmoor Police Department enforces the driving and parking laws as well as other city ordinances.
Please make sure that your family and guests abide by the “no parking” fire lane signs, obey the speed limit, comply with the stop signs and avoid parking across a sidewalk. Having a neighborhood safe for walkers and playing children is what makes this neighborhood great. Also, if requested, the police will watch over your home when you are out of town. Contact the Strathmoor Police at 432-8900. In case of an emergency, call 911 for Metro Police.
City trees are planted in the easement in front of your home between the sidewalk and street. The Manor plants, maintains and removes, as needed, the easement trees but the homeowner should maintain the easement by cutting the grass and clearing any storm run-off drains. The Manor is a designated a Tree City USA and works hard to maintain our tree-lined city streets.
Exterior property changes are to be reviewed and approved by the City Council at a monthly meeting. Metro Louisville will request a Strathmoor Manor approval letter prior to issuing a work permit. Contact the City Clerk to be on the agenda if you have a property change to discuss.
City Council meetings are generally held the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7 PM at First Capital Bank (soon to be bought by MainSource Bank) on Bardstown Rd. All residents are welcome to attend!
Please remember that the Mayor and Commissioners are neighbors giving their time and energy to serve as stewards to keep our neighborhood pleasant and safe. The Manor does not have a City Hall or any city employees.
